Women cleaning solar panels on a rooftop at the Barefoot College. The solar powered college was founded by Bunker Roy and aims to provide sustainable sources of alternative energy at the grassroot level for cooking (parabolic solar cookers), lighting (solar lighting) and heating (solar water heaters). The college first embraced solar technology in 1984. What began as a small experimental project to electrify a community health centre with a mini-plant of 145W, has grown to become the first and only fully solar electrified campus in rural India.
