Young men search through the rubble a day after violent destruction and looting took place in Nakuru. Warriors belonging to the Kalenjin tribe launched attacks the previous day on the residential areas of Nakuru. They torched fields in the morning and, using the smoke as cover, chased the Kikuyus from their homes, looting everything and setting the houses on fire. A few hours later Kikuyu communities elsewhere in town started chasing others in retaliation, resulting in over 50 casualties and many wounded. Ethnic violence sparked last December following protests against disputed election results, after suspected vote rigging by Kikuyu President Mwai Kibaki.
