Mostar, BOSNIA HERCEGOVINA

Youths jump from the temporary crossing alongside the 'Stari Most', Mostar's magnificent 16th century bridge. During the Bosnian war, the medieval town was split along the Neretva river, with the Muslim community on one side and Bosnian Croats on the other. The bridge was destroyed in fierce fighting in November 1993, and is only now being restored. The tradition of jumping from the bridge is an ancient one, and these young men are training for the day in 2004 when the rebuilding is complete.
