40 year old Danny Saer from Germany has been squatting in an abandoned hotel on Playa de Macenas for the past week. Construction on the property (located near Mojacar in Andalucia) was halted in 2008 when Spain's property bubble burst with disastrous consequences for the nation's economy. Mr Saer has been sleeping rough on Spain's Mediterranean coast for the last 5 years. He often sets up camp in abandoned property developments, of which there are many throughout Andalucia and Murcia. The spaces offer him shleter from the elements and are often close to local amenities and casual employment opportunities.
