Ambatovy, MADAGASCAR

61 year old Razanadravad, from the village of Ambonierenana, stands with her grandchildren in her vegetable patch, 1 km from the Ambatovy mine entrance. The family have had dysentery due to drinking water polluted by the nearby mine. Sherritt, one of the world's biggest mining companies, is constructing the world's largest nickel mine in Madagascar. At risk is one of the world's most diverse rainforests. Indigenous tribes face mass displacement, and the island's 200,000 plant and animal species, of which at least 75 percent are unique to the island, are under threat.
