8-year old Beatrice Lipp plays 'I Spy' next to a 'Huggable' with the robotic teddy bear in an hospital room at Boston Children's Hospital while a hospital child-life specialist looks on. Beatrice has been in and out of Hospitals for the last 5 years. Now at Boston Children's Hospital, she is part of a social robotic experiment between Boston's Children Hospital and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The goal of the experiment is to determine whether a so called 'Huggable' teddy bear, a social robotic stereotype, can have therapeutic value for children who have to endure long hospital stays. The bear's talking and movements are remotely controlled by Hospital Staff from outside of the room.
