A 100lb Bullpup 12C guided bomb is uncovered by a Mines Advisory Group (MAG) team which came to clear the area of unexploded ordnance (UXO). MAG's Technical Field Manager in the province, Ian Mulroy, discusses the situation with colleagues. They will try to split the bomb open with explosives without setting the whole thing off or 'high ordering'. A difficult task as the casing is very thick and the fuses particularly sensitive.
Decades on, Laos is still living with the effects of the Vietnam war. Millions of bombs were dropped by US aircraft in Laos in an attempt to destroy the supply lines of North Vietnamese forces. Here in Bourlapha district, there were over 36,000 bombing missions. Many of the bombs remain deadly, with frequent accidents involving UXO.
