Athens, Greece

A bank employee, at a branch of Eurobank in central Athens, tries to calm the tempers of account holders having to queue to be allowed inside the bank.
Most Greek banks have been closed since the announcement of a referendum on the conditions imposed by the troike - the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission - before it will disburse further financial aid to Greece.

On 5 July Greeks voted 'no' in a referendum which asked whether they were prepared to accept the conditions suggested by the 'troika' (the International Monetary Fund, the European Central Bank and the European Commission) before being given extra financial support and bailout funds. The outcome of post-referendum negotiations could determine whether or not Greece remains in the Eurozone and if it will continue to receive further financial assistance from the 'Troika'.
