A Catholic shrine outside a home in Wadeye, the largest Aboriginal town in the Northern Territory.

Wadeye is the largest Aboriginal town in the Northern Territory. Its seven different tribes were dispossessed of their land and forced to live together by a Catholic mission that was established in 1935. The resultant community was beset by problems that stemmed from this loss of land, language and culture resulting in many social problems, tension and violence especially among the youth.
