Butembo, North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo

A child looks at a community health worker conducting house-to-house outreach educating the local population on the need for vaccinations.

An Ebola outbreak was declared on 7th February in Butembo, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A previous Ebola outbreak was declared over in June 2020. It had claimed the lives of 2,287 people since August 2018.

This recent outbreak appears to be under control partly as a result of the swift deployment of the Ebola vaccine, although there is still resistance to being inoculated in some areas.
