A device to measure radioactivity in the human body, at the Kurchatov National Nuclear Centre. Patients had to lie down for two hours to undergo the test. From 1949 until 1991 the Soviet government conducted 456 nuclear tests at the Semipalatinsk Test Site, also known as the 'Polygon'.
