A dredger creates a new channel during construction work for the Panama Canal Expansion. When complete, 26 June 2016, ships specified as New Panimax, 320.04m (1,050ft) (l) x 33.54m (110ft) (w) x 12.56m (41.2ft) (d), will be able to pass through the canal. The works involve two new sets of locks at the Pacific and Atlantic ends and new channels leading to them as well as increasing the capacity of Lake Gatun which supplies water and would run dry given the increased requirements of the new locks. Also the canals existing channels will be made wider and deeper.
