Mark Henley

Geneva, Switzerland

A group of asylum seekers paste portraits of refugees onto the ground at a busy intersection in the Plainpalais district of Geneva. The portraits are of people from various countries including Syria, Eritrea Afghanistan Iraq, Nigeria, Guinea, Sri Lanka and Somalia. Many of them are housed in bunkers by the Hospice General. They are among the approximately 7,000 asylum seekers in this Canton which has a population of just under half a million. The photos Mark Henley are part of an Inside Out project, a project by a foundation set up by French artist JR. The exhibition took place as part of an Anti-racism Week.
