Herat, Afghanistan

A group of patients, at a treatment facility for people with mental health illness, eat a meal while crouched on the floor. Afghanistan's health services are among the world's worst, and its mental health provision is very limited. A national survey revealed that 16.5% of the adult population was suffering from mental health disorders. These rates of mental illness have been contributed to by the decades of war and conflict that the country has, and continues to, experience.
