Tanauan, PHILIPPINES

A man checks his catch next to a boat made out of an old refrigirator. Francis Kyle, a fisherman in Tanauan, noticed a floating fridge. He found a couple amongst the debris in the town and fasioned a small boat using the fridges and supports made from wood. The insulation is boyant and in calm sea conditions the boat is stable. Virtually all the boats in the town were destroyed in the Typhoon. A number of other people have taken up the idea and made boats out of refrigirators. Typhoon Haiyan, or Typhoon Yolanda as it is known in the Philippines, was the deadliest typhoon to hit the Philippines to date and is known to have killed over 5,700 people. It made landfall on 7 November 2013 and reached wind speeds of over 140 miles per hour.
