Apui, Amazonas, Brazil

A newly arrived migrant family from Rondonia State walk along the Trans-Amazonian Highway in rural Apui. Apui is on the front line of agricultural expansion in the Amazon, the seventh most deforested municipality in 2019. Most of these new migrants have left Rondonia, where land values increased because of the arrival of soy plantations, in search of cheaper land in the neighbouring state.
