A nurse holds a baby with birth defects. She was born blind and with no arms, possibly related to the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear meltdown that released radiation across Ukraine and neighboring Belarus. This special hospital ward is dedicated to similar cases that were occurring in larger numbers in the years after the Chernobyl disaster.
