A primary school girl, awaiting her school bus in Lamjamee Village, stands beneath one of the many tsunami warning signs erected in this low-lying coastal region that was severely affected by the 26 December 2004 tsunami. Following a peace deal with the central government Aceh is now classified as a Special Region and life is recovering after the devastation inflicted by the 26 December 2004 tsunami and decades of armed conflict. Tourism, agriculture and its own natural resources are driving the economy of the region which is the first in the mainly religiously moderate archipelago to formally instigate Sharia Law.
