El Salvador is considered by multiple organisations, such as Amnesty International, as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for women. El Salvador also has the highest number of femicides per year, around 500 women are brutally killed, mostly by their actual or former partners. Authorities also attribute the majority of violent deaths to the many gangs control many areas of the country.
