North West Darfur, SUDAN

A rebel soldier of the Sudanese Liberation Army (SLA) prays next to one of 12 bodies found in a remote area. According to local people they were executed in April this year after the Sudanese army and Janjaweed Arab militias attacked a market place. Two months later the SLA took control of the area and discovered the bodies. According to them they didn't bury the bodies, against Islamic tradition, in order to preserve some evidence of the atrocities committed by the Janjaweed and Sudanese government.
