Altamira, Para, Brazil

A resident of one of Altamira's stilt houses, who was forced to relocate because of the construction of Belo Monte dam, dismantles a house to reuse the material to build a new home or to expand the footprint of their home wherever they relocated. These families had two options: either they were compensated with money or they had a right to a house in the newly-settled areas. Many residents opted for compensation without fully researching the deal and were not able to buy another house with the money they received. This ended up generating further problems in the outskirts of Altamira such as new land invasions
