Mato Grosso, Brazil

A statue of beef cattle indicates the entrance of a farm in Peixoto de Azevedo alongside the BR-163 highway. This region that was once covered by the Amazon rainforest has been deforested to make way for gold mining, pasture for livestock and soybean plantations. The BR-163 links the city of Cuiaba to Santarem and in recent years it has been paved and transformed into a main corridor for the export of soy, produced in Mato Grosso.
