A statue of Norman Borlaug, the American agronomist credited with launching the 'Green Revolution', stands beside a small wheat plantation at the entrance of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT), an organisation that he founded in 1943 in the Yaqui Valley, where he helped local farmers greatly increase their wheat production.
