Most of the houses in the village are abandoned which was moderately contaminated by radiation from the disaster. The inhabitants used to receive government assistance of about GBP 0.16 a month (1.5 UAH). This was to enable them to buy food produce uncontaminated by radiation, although the amount was derisory and eventually the Ukrainian government even stopped giving these tiny benefits to Chernobyl victims.
