Ambatovy, MADAGASCAR

A woman collects polluted drinking water from a stream. Sherritt, one of the world's biggest mining companies, is constructing the world's largest nickel mine in Madagascar. At risk is one of the world's most diverse rainforests. Indigenous tribes face mass displacement, and the island's 200,000 plant and animal species, of which at least 75 percent are unique to the island, are under threat. Villagers surrounding the mine claim to have suffered from dysentery due to drinking water polluted by the Ambatovy Mine.
