Samuel Aranda

Guelhha, Western (Nafusa) Mounta, LIBYA

A wrecked tank lies beneath a Roman building that was damaged by troops loyal to Muammar Gadaffi. In contrast to the initial stalemate on Libya's eastern fronts, in Benghazi and Misrata, the rebels in the Western (Nafusa) Mountains made significant gains in the war against the dictator Gadaffi. Between 15 February 2011 and 20 October 2011 a civil war raged across Libya, ending with the death of the dictator but leaving a fractured and unstable country.
