A young girl holds up a kitten in her makeshift shelter in Barangay Tapon in the aftermath of typhoon Rai.
The impact in this area was immense. Almost all of the houses in this district (purok) were completely destroyed, a few were partially destroyed and almost all of the fishing boats (bancas) were lost. Many villagers thought they could brave the winds, but a sudden two metre surge wave came tumbling in and houses that had so far withstood the onslaught of the typhoon were demolished within mere minutes.
