Freetown, SIERRA LEONE

Abu Sesay and his gang sit on cardboard layed out on the ground in Freetown where they sleep most nights. Being out on the streets at night can be dangerous since the police can arrest for vagrancy and take offenders to the police station. In 2010, Abu was serving a two year sentence in Freetown's Pademba prison for stealing a purse with another boy. The prison was built for 220 people and regularly houses over 1,000 inmates. The charity Free Minor Africa is engaged with Sesay to try and find him work in a mechanic's workshop. [The second part of this photographic project was made possible with funds which Fernando Moleres received from the Tim Hetherington Grant in 2012]
