Freetown, SIERRA LEONE

Abu Sesay stands in front of the hut in the Wharf Area of Freetown which he shares with a friend. After his release from prison Abu started learning motor mechanics as part of his reintegration organised by the charity Free Minor Africa. After many years living on the streets Abu now lives with a friend in a new hut in the wharf area of Freetown. In 2010, Abu was serving a two year sentence in Freetown's Pademba prison for stealing a purse with another boy. The prison was built for 220 people and regularly houses over 1,000 inmates. [The second part of this photographic project was made possible with funds which Fernando Moleres received from the Tim Hetherington Grant in 2012]
