Andrey (6) sleeps, completely exhausted after 24 hours travelling to Lviv and more than a further 14 hours in a queue for a train to Poland. His sister and mother care for him, while his father has stayed behind in Dnipro to fight the Russians. The family plans to go to Ireland where they have relatives.
The train station at Lviv is the main hub for people trying to escape the war in Ukraine. Most of the refugees here are heading to Poland arriving on trains that come from all over the country. The thousands of mostly women and children have to wait many hours in long queues despite the freezing cold.
