Angelica Choc, surrounded by local leaders from other communities resisting mining activities in the area, leads a prayer in remembrance of her slain husband, former Q'eqchi' Mayan community leader, teacher and anti-mining activist Adolfo Ich Chaman. A banner with an image of Ich Chaman hangs behind. Ich Chaman was murdered on 27 September 2009, by Mynor Padilla, former head of security at the Guatemalan Nickel Company (CGN). Padilla is currently being held in jail on the murder charges and awaits a proper hearing. Ich Chaman's widow, Angelica Choc, is currently pursuing a high profile lawsuit in Canada against HudBay Minerals, company that employed Padilla at the time of the murder.
