Bonteheuwel, Cape Town, South Africa

As the police search for a young man from her house, a young girl comes out to watch the turmoil in the Bonteheuwel neighbourhood.
Not far away from the high-rise buildings of steel and glass, the landscape is dominated by small shelled brick houses and densely populated shanty towns. These are the so-called townships where mostly poor black and coloured people live. Here, unemployment is often between 30 and 50 percent, drug use is widespread, and the areas are ruled by rival gangs with names such as 'Americans', 'Sexy Boys', 'Hard Livings', 'Mongrels' and 'Junky Funky Kids'.

Bonteheuwel neighborhood is a densely populated shanty towns (or townships) mostly inhabited by poor black and 'coloureds'.
