Dr. Mawaheb al-Mowelhy gives a seminar on the effects of female genital mutilation (FGM) to women at a clinic in a disadvantaged area for the city. Al-Mowelhy is a gynaecologist who studied at Harvard before returning to Egypt where, since 1994, she has been fighting against FGM. Despite the criminalisation of the procedure and connected efforts of authorities, NGOs and even religious leaders, in some areas up to 80% of women are still being circumcised.
