Drifa Hrund Guomundsdottir takes a nap with her twins, one of two they take per day, at their home in Reykjavik. During the pandemic, Guomundsdottir says she cherished the extra time she had with her two teenage daughters, and decided to have another child. "I think that was the tipping point for me", she says, "I realised I wasn't ready to be done with the mom thing."

More babies were born in Iceland in 2021 than any other year in the past decade.
