Employees of Fazenda Jofre Velho are trained to fight fires by non governmental organisation SOS Pantanal. This project aims to promote the prevention of and rapid response to forest fires in the Pantanal through a network of rural brigades. The Pantanal region is the largest tropical wetland in the world, an important carbon sink and site of unique biodiversity. It has been facing the largest destruction by burning in its history.
