Every Saturday, hundreds of Kinois come to be baptised in the River Ndjili. Even if they have been baptised before, they come back to try their luck with another church. Religion is a flourishing business in poverty-ridden Kinshasa. Over 2000 Pentecostal churches have sprung up over the last few years, promising miracles but delivering little to alleviate the hopelessness of the worshippers. Some of the charismatic preachers, however, have amassed huge personal fortunes. Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire).
