Farmer Ruivaldo Nery travels by 'rabeta' (small boat) across permanently flooded pastureland to reach his farm in the Pantanal region of Paiaguas. This flooding occurred because the river Taquari had silted up and abandoned its original course and spread its waters over thousands of hectares, flooding farms and communities, making life in the region unviable.
