Fatima Mahmoud, 38, with her sons Ali and Mohammed (on the roof top of their house. ISIS set 19 of the town's oil wells on fire when they retreated a few months ago. The fires have been burning ever since and the smoke can be seen in the sky up to 60km away. The town's residents say they are beginning to suffer with health problems as a result. Rana says: ^I spend all my time cleaning. Every morning and every evening I have to wash down inside the house, the walls, the floor, everything is black with the oil. It is not safe for my children who are begining to get sick but we have nowhere else to go. I pray they can put the fires out soon or we will all die from this smoke.^
