Former residents scavenge for bricks, ceramic tiles and any items of value from their former homes in the wreckage of Kedung Bendoh village. Trucks cresting the top of the earthen dam holding back the mud can be seen behind them. Since May 2006, up to 50,000 people in the Porong subdistrict of Sidoarjo have been displaced by hot mud flowing from a natural gas well that was being drilled by the oil company Lapindo Brantas. The 'Lusi' mud volcano has continued to flow at a rate of up to 125,000 cubic metres per day.
