Friends and family gamble at the wake to raise money for the funeral of Nomer Navarette, 28, who was shot outside his house and then another nine times while being rushed to hospital in a taxi, in what appeared to be a drug-related execution. According to his family Nomer had stopped using drugs but was asked to surrender to police during a drug amnesty and did so. Gambling is illegal in the Philippines but is a permitted custom at wakes to help the families raise money for the funeral costs.
