Gulstan and her family have fled their home village because they ran out of food. Their hunger has taken them to this little camp of simple tents on the outskirts of Herat city.
Her two daughters, Farzana (12) and younger sister Najebi both have high fevers and are coughing after spending two months in a small and cold tent. In the other tents around them, children have begun to die of malnourishment and pneumonia.
About one thousand people have moved from their villages and farms in the countryside due to the food-crisis, and are now living in subhuman conditions. Their hope is that local government or relief organisations will help them and provide at least some food, medical care and warmer tents. In almost all the small tents there were sick people and no help had yet arrived despite that they had already been waiting for months.
