Helen Skelton, of the Finchley Horticultural Society, outside the Kazubaloo KL2 waterless toilet at the Gordon Road Allotments in Finchley, North London. The Finchley Horticultural Society was founded in 1940 as the West Finchley (Wartime) Allotments Association, part of the 'Dig for Victory' campaign. Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor (WSUP) and Panos Pictures have documented women and girls and their toilet facilities in 20 countries across every continent to build a visual representation of the day-to-day reality and the effect this has on their lives, both positive and negative. Having access to a safe toilet facility can equal dignity, safety, education, employment and status. My Toilet: Global Stories from Women and Girls will be exhibited at the Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, London from 17th to 22nd November 2014.
