Henslow Waterboer (32) sifts through gravel in search of diamonds in what was the staff canteen building at a disused mine once owned by De Beers. Henslow comes from a nearby village that has barely benefitted from the extraordinary mineral wealth of the region. "The companies took everything they wanted", he says, "but these diamonds are our birthright".
