Xieng Khouang Province, LAOS

High explosive anti-aircraft rounds and mortar bombs are destroyed in a controlled demolition. A Mines Advisory Group (MAG) team is working to clear the Plain of Jars of unexploded ordnance (UXO) in partnership with UNESCO. The project is intended to secure World Heritage status for the jar sites. Giant stone urns, believed to be around 2000 years old, litter the landscape at several sites on the central northern plateau of Laos.
Decades on, Laos is still living with the effects of the Vietnam war. Millions of bombs were dropped by US aircraft in Laos in an attempt to destroy the supply lines of North Vietnamese forces. Many remain deadly, with frequent accidents involving unexploded ordnance (UXO).
