Kian Amani is a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker. He was born in Tehran where he lived until 2010 when he moved to the USA. In June 2009, while capturing images of the Green Movement protests, Amani was beaten, stabbed and shot at by, he assumes, agents of the state, barely escaping with his life. In his last months living in Iran, he secretly filmed a documentary about Iranian gay life. He now runs an art cafe and works as an online teacher of photography and documentary filmmaking, specialising in conflict and crisis.
