Kieran, 15, helps his mother put the washing out on the line at their home in Sheffield.
Kieran, lives with his mother Lorraine and sister Shannon. Abbie has known Kieran since he was eleven and he is cheeky and funny and certainly not shy in coming forward. She met Kieran through his older sister Shannon whom she also photographed for her project about adolescent and childhood obesity.
When he was 14, Kieran was aware that being overweight made things more difficult because he was carrying around a lot more weight than he should. 'It's just you're comfortable sitting down or something like that and you don't feel happy with yourself. I'd say that girls tend to be unhappy with themselves but it's known that they're unhappy with themselves but boys tend to keep it bottled up so no one knows that they're unhappy with themselves at all. Being slim definitely gives you an advantage with girls because obviously they like confidence and obviously slim lads are more confident than big ones. You just look better when you're slim' he says.
Over the years, Kieran has lost quite a bit of his weight and now feels confident in his body, despite still being a little overweight. He's still not happy with his body but is going to the gym and making progress. He feels that being overweight is not a downside. It's who he is and it it was has made him the person he is today.
