Samuel Aranda

Baiona, Galicia, Spain

Lala Gonzalez and her sisters make their way to the shore to collect percebes (Goose barnacles). Percebes, considered a luxury seafood item, grow on the rocks of the storm battered coast of northern Spain. The dangerous business of harvesting them for sale generates millons of Euros each year in Spain, providing a livelihood for many families. Although tightly regulated due to the economic crisis many people have been attracted to illegally poaching the crustaceans creating an unsustainable strain on the natural resource.
