Studenica, KOSOVO

Merite Sejdisas (26) and her children Dugagjini (4) and Melita (7 months).
She was asked to describe her memories of the 1999 war, when the whole population of the ethnic Albanian village of Studenica were forced to flee the fighting.
"Life in the refugee camp was horrible. It felt as if it would last forever, luckily it was less then three months. I had already been married to Bayram for three years and we wanted to have children but how can you have children when life is so uncertain?
Bayram has gone abroad to find work, he wasn't here for the birth of Mejita and hasn't seen her yet. It would have been better if he worked here but there are no jobs. I don't know when he will come back, he didn't say. Now I have two children but no Bayram, I miss him a lot."
