Momina undergoing medical treatment for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) at the provincial hospital in Bamiyan. She had been suffering from malnutrition for some time, but her father didn't think the family had the resources for her and her mother to go to the hospital. So, they stayed at home and Momina became increasingly unwell. When she could no longer walk her mother, Sharifa, took an unusual decision and disobeyed her husband, borrowed money, sold her earrings and took her daughter on the long journey to the hospital.
