Debre Damos, Tigray, ETHIOPIA

Monks scale a wall to reach the entrance of Debra Damos Monastery. Climbing a rope up a 15 metre wall is the only means to enter the monastery. Every day monks, many older than seventy years old, clamber up and down the wall. In the past up to six thousand monks lived in the monastery but currently the community has fallen to around one hundred.
